Research

Picture
Research and education inform each other - what we know informs what we study. What we study informs what we know.
I am a fervent believer in education through independent research.  My own research investigates how predation risk alters the physiology of prey, through changes in prey metabolism. These changes affect how prey release nitrogen into their ecosystems, altering nutrient cycles and affecting related aspects of ecosystem function. More about my research projects can be found on my 'Projects' page.

My graduate research was greatly assisted by 16 semesters of independent undergraduate research. In this aspect of my personal educational mission, I worked with each student to...
  • ...establish a research topic of interest
  • ...read papers in the primary literature
  • ...design a feasible and realistic experiment
  • ...maintain experimental apparatus
  • ...collect data
  • ...analyze and present data
More about my work mentoring undergraduates can be found on my 'Mentorship' page.
